So, life goes on on the surface, despite how you’re feeling about things on the inside . My life is no exception. I very often have my down moments, being that I live with two people who suffer depression. It’s hard not to catch it at times, especially when I know there are things going on at home in Oz and I don’t get to be a part of it.
So…..In order to talk/write my way out of the way was feeling, I thought I’d spice things up a little and talk about poop and cute things. It’s part of my therapy.
Squeeler, my baby girl turned two in May. The last few weeks she has changed so much, and so quickly. She talks the hind legs off a donkey these days (no idea where she got that from!). The things she comes out with are hilarious. Having an older brother helps the situation.
We have:
- “It’s not Pair” (she can’t pronounce ‘f’) complete with arm folding, huffing and pouty lips. Must get this on video, stat!
- If she’s listening to her Sesame Street CD in the car and I happen to start getting into it (because thats what you do when you’re a Mum) she yells at me “Stop…Elmo Sings it”and scowls at me. Eeep OK then.
- *bad mother alert* – Squeeler wanted to watch TV, so I asked her what she wanted to watch. “Sponge Bob – I just love him” I ask her why she loves Sponge Bob so much…her answer “Don’t know, I just love him”. Can’t argue with that. Who wouldn’t love a guy who lives in a pineapple.
I’m so looking forward to taking her home to Perth in October. She left there an 8 month old, and is returning a little girl. A girl with spice!
I started toilet training her this week. The weather was warm so it seemed the perfect time.
Don’t you find it hilarious that when toilet training it’s ok to get excited about poop and wee!?
You high five them, give them stars on charts, you change your status on Facebook exclaiming to everyone you know, how your child has done their first nugget in the potty and how proud you are of that fact. Accident? Never Fear – Mummy is here! Quick smart you’re there with wipes, paper towel and a mop, with never a word of discouragement. Your other Mummy friends come out of the woodwork with their poo and wee stories. “My child just pooped on the floor – FML” “About to venture out for the first time with child in undies – Wish me Luck” You have people saying “mines not interested” and you have the words of support in return “don’t worry, they’ll do it when they’re ready”
There are so many things in my life I wish would change, so many things I wish I had control over (yep, self confessed) but I wouldn’t change a thing about being a Mum. The poop stories, the frustrations, the arguments, the struggles – they are far outweighed by the joys and love. They are what gets me through my rough days anywhere in the World. God love them for it.
