Moments

I have loved photography for as long as I can remember.  One of my favourite pastimes as a child would be to look through all the albums my Mum & Dad had created over years gone by. I think it’s in my blood. I’m a lover of moments.

I remember the first time I went out and was in control of my own camera (Blue – Fisher Price!), it was my year 7 camp to Carnarvon in WA.  I took loads of images of gorges, red dirt, and my friends in a tent in the middle of nowhere.

From that time, I just kept on snapping.  I took photos of everything, all ‘snapshots’.  Memories frozen in time.

In 2007 when I had my Relaxy Boy, my camera was pretty much a permanent fixture to me.  I took a photo of everything he did.  Pictures of his first tooth cutting through his gum, on the back lawn with the dog, the beach, the park, eating, crying, his first poosplosion out of his nappy!  I challenged myself from the day he was born.  I would take a photo of him on the 12th of every month until the age of 5. I have two photos to go! I also do one for Squeeler on the 27th of every month.  Can’t let her think she’s missing out. I have made a photo book for each year of their lives so far.

Whilst we were living in Singapore, where cameras are a dime a dozen and every second person you see is carrying around a DSLR, I decided I should give it a go too.  Being a SAHM can mean your focus changes somewhat, and you may possibly be looking to find that part of ‘you’ which was lost once your children came along.  That was me.  I needed something….. Something else which made my heart sing.

From that moment forward I’ve been on a mission with my photography.  To possibly go somewhere with it in the future….possibly…..maybe?!.  I’ve joined a forum, I’ve completed an online course, fumbling my way around photoshop and only now am I starting to get out there and take photos of people I don’t actually know – which is tough given I don’t really know many people!  It gives me purpose, confidence and a sense that I, as a Woman and not *just* a Mother, actually exists.

I’m in the process of completing a Project 52 through a Photographer I admire and I will be sharing my images, and the story behind them as my blog post every week here at Mummyology – This project has helped me grow as a photographer in so many ways.   Tune in this Silent Saturday for a few of my favourite images from the previous 34 weeks of my project (some of which have been chosen as ‘eye candy’) including this weeks theme: The Five Senses

What is that one thing you enjoy, that part of YOU which sets you apart from Mummy?

Love your idea to take one pic on the same day each month…. Just lovely! As for what is ‘my’ thing….. Writing seems to have become it which is funny really as I never think anyone else would want to read it! I am sure it will evolve and change again when the kids are both at nursery and school as you say, keep growing and changing 🙂
